"Catholic Berlin" offers students in the Notre Dame Berlin summer program the opportunity to engage with the Berlin community in a very personal way. It entails a cooperation between Notre Dame and Canisius Kolleg, a coeducational, private and Catholic Gymnasium in Berlin, Germany directed by the Jesuits. Throughout the summer, Notre Dame Berlin students have the chance to meet with students and faculty of Canisius, both formally and informally. Additionally, Canisius offers NDB students opportunities for small "internships" working with the school's youth groups, or helping out with tutoring for refugee students in the Welcome Classes. These events and opportunities are outlined below.

 After-School Program Tutoring
There are also opportunities to help out with the after-school program at Canisius Kolleg. This might involve tutoring younger students with homework, helping out with crafts and fun projects, playing board games, or reading with kids.

"Big-Little" Mentorships
You will be working with Inklusionsschüler (Inclusion Students). These are refugee students who come from a number of different countries. They have worked hard in the Welcome Classes to learn German and get up-to-speed on other subjects (including English) such that they have now integrated into classes with other German students. They bring with them unique life experiences. You will hopefully get chance to get to know one particular inclusion student over the course of a close, big-little type of relationship with them.

Herz-Jesu Choir
For those who are interested in singing and meeting Berliners who like to sing, the choir at Herz-Jesu church is a great opportunity! The choir meets Wednesdays at 8pm and practices usually take about an hour and a half. If you're interested in joining, email Ryan.
